NT$7 Million Agricultural Industry losses in Southern and Central part of Taiwan



Council of Agriculture (COA) reported on Friday, August 16 (CNA) that Agricultural losses reached nearly  NT$7 million (US$223,500) from heavy rain in central and southern Taiwan.
                                                             
COA announced that the most affected crops were corn, peanut, banana and watermelon. NT$3.56 million sustained the highest damage in Yunlin Country, while NT$1.09 million had losses Kaohsiung, followed by NT$720,00 in Pingtung Country and Taiwan with the NT$710,00.

Yellow alert issued in place for 121 rivers and creeks areas, while red alert issued for 152 mudslide-prone streams and rivers, mainly in Yunli, Nantou, Tainan, Chiayi, Kaohsiung and Pingtung.

The Central Weather Bureau (CWB) forecast that five (5) cities and countries in Southern Taiwan will face heavy rain from Friday night through Saturday. Heavy rain advisories for Chiayi Country, Chiayi City, Kaohsiung City, Pingtung Country and Tainan City has issued.

CWB announced that residents of those areas should be aware of lightning, sporadic showers, gusty winds and even rockslides near mountainous areas.
                                                         
CWB forecast that on Saturday, daytime will reach 36 degrees in Greater Taipei and 32-35 degrees Celsius in southern and central Taiwan.
