Japan to pivot in Philippines and Taiwan to purchased semiconductor products instead of South Korea

Japan is not particularly concerned about the limited access to South Korea’s semiconductors. This is because Japanese companies are confident that the necessary supply can be purchased from Taiwan.
Japan decision to remove South Korea from a white list of approved trading partners, Seoul responded by saying that it would begin restricting certain exports to Japan, including semiconductors that are crucial for many hi-tech Japanese products.

Countries on Japan’s white list are granted simplified export procedures on industrial items that could be diverted for military uses. South Korea's being removed from the list means that an estimated 1,120 dual-use goods will require individual authorizations to be exported to the country, according to Yonhap News Agency.

A diplomatic row is heating up between Japan and South Korea over the issue of conscripted labor during World War II, which threatens to spiral out of control.Tokyo says the ruling in the South Korean court is unjustified, and that the matter was settled decades ago. The Japanese government also likely feels pressure to stop the issue from escalating to target other corporations, potentially in other nations like Taiwan or the Philippines.

Taiwan now looks set to benefit as a result of South Korea and Japan’s ongoing feud stemming from forced labor during World War II and Seoul's Decision to pursue asset seizure of Japanese businesses in South Korea.

Although Taiwan has never been on Tokyo's white list, meaning each of its products must be individually licensed for import, there have never been nor is there any reason to expect problems with Taiwan’s manufacturing or export processes.
