158 repatriated distressed OFW arrived Manila Philippines

Manila Philippines - Early morning, Sunday,October 6, 2019. Several distressed OFW has arrived in Manila International Airport which were repatriated from Abu Dhabi and Dubai.

“In line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s commitment to protect the welfare and well-being of Filipinos overseas, we welcome home this morning 158 OFWs, most of whom were victims of trafficking in persons,” Foreign Affairs Undersecretary for Migrant Workers’ Affairs Sarah Lou Y. Arriola said 

The distressed OFW were been repatriated through the effort of Philippine Ambassador to the UAE Hjayceelyn Quintana and with Consul General to Dubai Paul Cortes, they said that the repatriated workers were victims of illegal recruiters.

“These workers were found to have left the country using short-term visit visas and were promised to be issued with work visa by illegal recruiters,” Cortes added.

Since January, there are more than 4,800 distressed OFW were sent back to the Philippines.
