A new pill to prevent HIV has arrived in the Philippines

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV), is a virus spread through certain body fluids that attacks the body's immune system. The Philippines is among the countries with a rising number of HIV cases in the world. And now at a very young age have HIV.

According to the cause-oriented group on sexual health LOVEYOURSELF PH, a new pill to prevent contracting Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is now available in the Philippines. The pill called Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Pill or prEP can help the body to prevent HIV by more than 90 percent if taken daily.

The prEP was first introduced since 2017 and approved to use of prEP this year by the Food and Drugs Administration. It was also endorsed by the United National Aids program.

According to an article on the PH website, the pills are available in limited cities, including Pasay City, White House in Cebu City, in all High-Precision Diagnostic Centers, and at the website And soon will be in Manila, ParaƱaque, and Bacoor.

In a report of GMA NEWS online, a prEP bottle that good for a month is expensive, it cost around 1,500 to 2,400 pesos.

To prevent HIV: Avoiding unprotected sex, avoid contact with blood or body fluids, don't share razor blades or toothbrushes, don't share needles or syringes.
