Is it safe to take calcium supplements for pregnant and mommy to be?


Calcium plays an important role in the human body. Calcium is very essential in muscle contraction. Building strong bones and teeth, blood clotting, nerve impulse, transmission, regulating heartbeat.

The main foods rich in calcium are dairy products like milk, cheese, and yogurt. Our bodies don't produce calcium, and we can get it from the food we eat and from calcium supplements. An OB-Gynecologist Dr. Raul Quillamor on Pinoy MD said that all pregnant and all girls who plan to be pregnant need calcium.

According to Quillamor, a pregnant woman needs 500-1000mg a day. And after birth and during breastfeeding, all mommies need more calcium about 1000-1500mg. Babies need calcium for developing bones, teeth, and blood. And the mother also needs calcium.

It is good for you and your baby to keep taking your calcium supplements.
