LOOK: China implements the facial recognition to access the Internet

The new rule of the Chinese government is requiring its citizens to undergo facial recognition tests to gain access to the internet. A statement made from the MIIT website that the new rule will safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of citizens in cyberspace.

Thus, telecom carriers will have to verify whether mobile or landline numbers are correctly registered under real names. Also, terms and conditions require to update and notify their clients that their number will not be allowed to transfer their sim card to others by the end of November 2019.

Aside from applying for internet access, those who want to have a new mobile number or landline number must also undergo a facial recognition test.

This new policy follows a previous rule implemented in 2015 which required to present a valid ID and Personal Info when signing up a new mobile number or landline number.
