Magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck east of Taiwan

Taipei (Taiwan News) - In the Central Weather Bureau's reporting a magnitude 5.4 earthquake hit the Pacific east of Taiwan yesterday night Thursday (October 17), but most of the island except the south end was felt tremble.

The earthquake felt last night at around 7:44 p.m., 16.5 kilometers under the ocean and 83.6 km east of the Hualien country government building.

The highest earthquake intensity is felt in Yilan City, Taiwan, Wuta and its some nearby places. Whereas Intensity II is felt in the north and central parts of Taiwan.

All Mass Rapid Transit services in Taipei City are temporarily halted for safety checking and resumption will return it once it is fixed.
