Virus called "avian flu" spreading at Taoyuan slaugtherhouse.

CNA reported yesterday Oct. 21 that the City's Animal Office said that the frozen chicken that killed has total of 1,453 pieces from the Taoyuan slaughterhouse had been confirmed to be infected with the Highly Pathogenic H5 Avian Influenza Virus.

Last friday all the suspected chickens died in Bade District. Officials immediately arrived at the area after receiving a report about the virus.  Officials took tissue samples from the animals and ordered that the death chicken can put at the freezer until the test was completed.

The chickens that died were taken from poultry in the Chiayi country.

According to Wang Te-Chi the results of the analysis they conducted have been returned by the Council of Agriculture (COA) and it has been proven that chickens that died were positive for the highly pathogenic subtype H5N2 avian flu virus.

On monday threw the chickens away into the freezer.  Meanwhile, the slaughterhouse and the place where they died were disinfected by inspectors on that same day

The Bureau of Animal and Plant Health Inspection and Quarantine (BAPHIQ) also said it was the first time this year the avian flu occurred at the Taoyuan slaughterhouse.

Slaugterhouses across Taiwan received 16 times hits by avian flu this year.  These include Taipei, Kaohsiung, Changchua Country, Pingtung Country, and Taoyuan.
