Congress approved Hospital for OFW

The proposed House Bill 168 seeking to establish of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) hospital approved on Monday.

The House Committee on Ways and Means chaired by Albay Representative Joey Salceda approved the request of the principal author of the Bill 168 Quezon Rep. Angelina Tan.

Under this Bill, the Hospital is expected to provide at least tertiary level care. A comprehensive and total health care services to all migrant workers, including OWWA contributors and their legal dependents. To conduct medical examinations to ensure physical and mental capability of aspiring overseas contract workers. Serve as primary referral to those seeking medical assistance especially repatriated OFWs.

It is mandated to participate in the health care provider networks in relation to the implementation of RA 11223 or the Universal Health Care Act. Its also required to create systems that monitor the condition of patients and generate relevant health data for the formulation of policy.

The Secretary of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) tasked as chairperson of the OWWA Board to ensure existing both health benefits and medical assistance programs are in shape to subsidize hospitalization and medical procedures for OFWs and their qualified dependents.

Department of Health shall promulgate the implementing rules and regulations of the proposed Act within 60 days from approval.
