Heavy rain is expected as the 17th typhoon intensifies in West Philippine Sea

Manila, Philippines - The PAGASA said, the weather in Palawan has intensified into a tropical storm this Thursday morning.

Quiel was last detected 360 km northwest of Coron, Palawan with maximum winds of 95 km per hour and winds of up to 115 kph.  PAGASA also said that this storm moving in the East is unlikely to produce landfall.

The 17th storm entering the country is expected to rise in the storm before it leaves the Philippine Area of ​​Responsibility this coming Saturday.

According to Loreidin Dela Cruz, PAGASA weather specialist this storm will deliver light to moderate rainfall in the Zambales, Bataan, Mindoro, and Palawan areas.  Meanwhile, Northern Luzon will also experience light to moderate with occasional thunderstorms and the frontal system.
