17 kilometers danger zone are on mandatory evacuation after alert 4 raised in Taal Volcano


The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) raised alert level 2 to level 4 in just an hour over the Taal volcano in a phreatic explosion in Batangas. According to United States Geological Survey, a phreatic eruption is a steam-blast eruption that occurs when magma heats groundwater or surface water.

National Disaster and Risk Reduction Management Council Spokesperson Mark Timbal said residents in three towns in Batangas in San Nicolas, Balete and Talisay the evacuations are ongoing because those towns are very near in volcano. A Taal volcano stronger explosion past 2 p.m. and continuous ashfall have reached to Metro Manila, Laguna, Cavite and nearby provinces.

Residents from the town of Talisay are pleading for help to evacuate. There are already 8,000 were evacuated according to NDRRMC.

Alert level 2 or level 4 means the residents need to evacuate from 17 kilometers danger zone within 48 hours. The place near the Taal volcano is dangerous that can create an explosion of steam, water, ash, blocks, and bombs.
