America's second highest and most active volcano erupted

Last Thursday, January 9, 2020. The most active volcano in Mexico erupted with stunning visual display of fiery lava and drifting ash that rose nearly 20,000 feet in the air.

The stratovolcano, Popocatépetl, is a little over 40 miles southeast of Mexico City. No one was injured by the blast, but Mexico’s National Center for Disaster Prevention (CENAPRED) warned people to stay away from the site of the eruption.

The Popocatépetl is North America’s second-highest volcano and being monitor  24 hours a day by more than 20 specialized devices. It also erupted twice in July.
